Not Your Ordinary 5K

Joan Wilson, whose life this race honors, was an incredible woman whose love for God and for her family was apparent in every aspect of her life. The loss of Joan in a hit and run jogging accident devastated many, but her spirit carries on as a tribute to the way she lived her life. Joan was very active in the lives of her children, her church, MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers), and in the family business. She loved God, her husband Neil,  her children Craig, Rayla, Jaden, Kaley,  her extended family and her friends. Her prayers were a constant benefit to many.

It is through Joan's passion for running that this race has come to be. Her zest for life and love of the outdoors, as witnessed in her adventure racing, make it the perfect vehicle by which to honor her memory. We are very grateful for the support we have received from the community for this event.

Each year a portion of the proceeds from this race are donated to the Holt International Children's Services. Joan and Neil adopted their four children through the Holt organization and we sponsor a child each year in her memory. We are also in the process of choosing a site along the new recreation trail where we will place a bench, flowering tree and beautiful flowers - a physical space to be enjoyed as we remember Joan.

Many of you knew Joan very well, while others of you may never have had the opportunity to meet her. Those of us who knew Joan realize we are truly blessed for having had our paths cross. We  are better Christians, wives, mothers, and friends for having known and worked with Joan. We believe that many others share these feelings. May we each leave here with a commitment to live our lives a little more like Joan.
